Into the Light: The Art of Claire Ankenman

Claire Ankenman’s work could be considered the spiritual disciple of the California Light and Space movement of the 1960’s and 70’s with a nod to the works of Larry Bell and John McCracken. She has focused her work on the ephemeral effects of light emanating across an object’s surface. Ankenman has created an iconic, lozenge-like shape in which to explore the many variations of color and light that emanate from these cat eye like, floating objects. In these works, Claire Ankenman appears to have found a singular shape to expand her continued exploration of pure color in space. She continues to delight and challenge the viewer’s perception in works that radiate beyond their monolithic form, into a realm of pure light and color.
